Helpful Hints to Navigate KBA and Your Tax Return & Paying Estimates and Tax Payments Online
The government requires KBA (Knowledge-Based Authentication) when electronically signing your tax returns. Therefore, you will be required to verify your identity in order to login in to sign your tax documents.
Helpful Hints:
First you will be brought to a screen where you will be required to enter your name, address, date of birth and the last four digits of your social security number.
The screen will open with sample data entered in the fields - type over the data with your personal information.
If your login is denied, try typing out Street instead of St or vice versa or try an older address if you have moved in recent years.
It is better to use a computer as opposed to a mobile device or tablet as some features in the process work better on a computer.
Once your data is accepted on the first screen, then you will be asked 4 questions related to you personally.
If you have trouble, please contact us so we can help. We understand this KBA process may be frustrating. Although we have no control over the process as it is set by the authentication system, we can try to help guide you through the process.
Paying Estimated Payments and Tax Payments Online
One way to combat whitewashing of checks, is to make estimated payments or tax payments online. Simply create online accounts with the tax authorities. This will save you from mailing checks with vouchers. Online accounts also allow you to pre-schedule payments so you avoid forgetting to mail them on time. While online accounts can come with potential hacking risks, setting up multi-factor authentication (MFA) will help secure your accounts. Below please find the IRS and various state payment links:
